Pamela M. Earl | Weird Scenes: An exhibition of mixed media inspired by three books

A mixed media exhibition on canvas, fabric, card, giclee and ceramic boxes which focus mainly, but not solely on the late 1960s. It is inspired by three books. Undercroft - there will be a lava lamp projector with bean bags and pillows and a Bakelite telly (if it works). There will be a woman who will occasionally dance and pose in 1960 poses in the fashion of the period. Music will be played in the gallery and undercroft eg Doris Day, Beach Boys, The Doors, etc

About the Artist

Pamela M. Earl

Pamela’s work involves place, events and history. For thirty-five years she has lived mostly in England. Three were spent in Dublin. Pamela holds a Dip Int/Env Des from The New England School of Art & Design (at Suffolk University), Boston, Ma. Her major was Art Deco. She holds an MA Pub and PG Dip Cons His Env. Pamela was a draftsman at Renton Howard Wood Levine Partnership.

For ten years she worked in production, starting as an extra in Robocop II then worked in live television as an actor on RTE’s Nighthawks (Anne Enright was Producer). She moved behind the camera; work included props buyer and production assistant on the award-winning opera film Hell for Leather. She later produced pop promos including ETA’s Casual Sub and the film short Upstairs. Its premier was held at the ICA.

Recently, Pamela’s work has been mostly mixed media. Her watercolour, acrylic, oil and pen and ink works have hung in London, Boston, Los Angeles, Austin and Arlington, Texas and East Sussex.

Between 2014 and 2019 Pamela produced and partly stitched a three-piece embroidered biography of William the Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke, Regent of England. It resides in Pembroke Castle. In 2021, she held an exhibition of found assemblage boxes at The Star Brewery Gallery, Lewes.

In 2022, Pamela held an extensive exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of the Watergate break-in. It was held in The Crypt Gallery. Recordings of Nixon’s phone conversations and footage of the Watergate hearings were used.

A proud native Texan and daughter of the South, Pamela considers herself a citizen of the world. She and her partner, Seb, live in Lewes with house bunny Chevy and Jessica, a tuxedo cat.
